Self Care - A MUST for the Bride

By Allison Rodriguez

It’s the moment you’ve always dreamed of…you’re engaged to be married!  Planning your wedding can include a flurry of exciting, memorable moments, but also a time of anxiety.  With the weight of planning such an important day, taking care of yourself may be the last thing on your mind, but making your health a priority can be the secret to a successful wedding planning experience.  Here are six tips to ensure you feel happy, healthy, and beautiful for your walk down the aisle!

Eat Clean

To be at your best, you must fuel your body with the nutrition it craves.  Instead of focusing on weight loss or so-called problem areas, try to incorporate healthier food options into your daily routine.  Lean proteins, unprocessed grains, and colorful fruits or veggies are excellent selections for snacks and meals alike.

Get Moving

One of the best ways to boost energy levels and eliminate wedding induced stress is to exercise frequently!  A schedule of workouts 3-5 times a week is just what the doctor ordered.  Remember, rigorous activity isn’t necessary unless you want to do so; even 30 minutes of the exercise of your choice will grant results.  Find your favorite routine and feel those endorphins bring you to life.

Hydrate

We’ve all heard it before:  drink more water.  It can be tempting to reach for the sugary soda when you need an extra boost, and while it may satisfy your thirst momentarily, choosing water will truly help in the long run.  Need some motivation to drink up?  Try ordering a cute water bottle or setting reminders on your phone to encourage your intake!

Get Your Beauty Sleep

Have you ever heard of “getting your beauty rest?”  Try to sleep at least seven hours a night and be sure to prepare your mind for sleep with no-screen time before bed.  By giving your body the rest it needs, you’ll be ready to tackle whatever wedding planning throws at you.

Take Vitamins

Planning a life event like a wedding can feel very overwhelming and this can add extra stress to your everyday routine, weakening your immune system.  To fight off germs that cause illnesses, try vitamins A and C.  Be sure to discuss with your doctor before making any changes.

Do What Makes You Feel Good

While all of these tips can be helpful, you know yourself best.  Does a calming bubble  bath clear all of your anxious thoughts?  Maybe you find yourself missing your closest friends or an old hobby you used to enjoy.  Think about the activities and people that make you happiest and seek them out.  When stress seems to take over, remind yourself that a wedding isn’t just about seating arrangements and strict budgets, but about your love story.  You’ll be grateful that you did.
